These tips define the focus of the WORKPLACE COUNCIL on:

  • Workplace practices which build productive bottomlines. Those practices benefit the employees, management and the stockholders.

  • Values, attitudes and skills required
    to implement those practices.

TWENTY YEARS OF OPERATION

The people interested in creating a Workplace Council were members of a committee located within the B.C. Mental Health Association which presented annual Awards to companies who had achieved excellent Mental Health conditions in their companies. Carrying out the process of screening those companies who had applied for awards made those committee members so aware of all the details which created each story. Although the details of the winning stories were shared at the award ceremonies, the committee members felt the sharing of those stories should be more widespread... hence the Workplace Council.

As the stories continued to be part of the Workplace Council's background, some of them were added to the Website. Much of the yearly agenda for meetings consisted of these stories which sometimes included companies caught in a bind and wanting suggestions from other participants. For a number of years the Council expected their meetings to be "locations of learning".

By 2010 the persons on the Board felt they could no longer organize meetings and decided to just manage the Website. Questions about this project can be sent to vlangdon@telus.net

MORE ABOUT THE SITE...

Most topics on this site are discussed with an emphasis on the "human factors" in the workplace, but this should not imply that other business basics are less important. Some leaders learn the business basics needed to operate their enterprise, but have missed an understanding of their role in helping the people they work with become significant players in achieving the company goals.

When a leader does understand how to integrate resources with the basics in a productive way, success is more achievable. This is a challenging goal to work toward. Enter our site in the upper left corner and read about more ways to achieve your goal.

We hope to "jumpstart" the thinking of leaders… toward more effective decisions and actions.
